Once all cleaning tasks have been completed, inspection can commence
to check the condition of each individual component to look for signs of
damage or wear that might mean replacement parts are needed. First check the conditions of all O-rings and rubber seals. If any are
broken, or found to be showing signs of cracking, splitting, or are flattened
and deformed, they must be replaced. Next, check the floats themselves for any leaks. This is easily done
by briefly submerging them underwater and looking for any signs of bubbles to
indicate if their buoyancy has been compromised. Then check the condition of the pilot air screws themselves. If their pointed
tips have snapped off, blunted, or become bent out of shape, they too should
be replaced. Inspect the rubberised tips of the float valves. They should be
perfectly conical. If they show lines of depression, dents, or are malformed
in any way, replace them. |

Highlighted here on a slide guide are the wear indicators that must be
checked. The absence of the round indentions would mean that the slide has
reached the end of its serviceable life. |

The slide guide is designed as a sacrificial component. Made of a
softer material than the actual slide that runs inside it, the guide will
absorb any wear caused through friction and vibration, thereby reducing the
chance of costly damage to the main carburettor housing itself. If the wear indicators are significantly compromised, then the guide
must be replaced. Next check the condition of the jet needles. These should be both
straight and showing no signs of appreciable wear on their surfaces. Friction
and vibration can over time cause the surfaces to show indentations which
will affect fuel metering. If damage or wear is found, replace them. Finally the vacuum diaphragms for each slide need to be checked. They
should not be deformed, split, or have cracks on their mating surface edges.
Any of such damage will require their replacement |
